I think this was pretty interesting to learn about how dominant and recessive genes work. It was, though, kind of easy to reach the goals. I liked the things. They were so cute!

I think it was cool to be able to learn about how certain genes are passed down into certain things. It would have been cool to have this game introduced during our Nature vs. Nurture debate, it would have gave us some insight on our arguments and if they were valid or not. Overall, I think it was a really cool game and I'm definitely going to be playing again.

I think this was really fun! I also thought it was cool to learn about the dominant and recessive genes work, and how they were random and the kid could get a mixture of the genes. That was a good point, Joe, that in it would have been cool in our nature vs. nurture debate.I thought it was cool, but it wasn't really that educational. But it was fun! It was really easy because it would tell you the percentage of you creating a certain type of Thing.

I thought that this was really kind of bizarre. I mean, the game kind of made me ask, "What's the point?" Of course this is just my opinion. I mean, I prefer games where there is more information, and where they repeat some information, instead of telling you the most important information once, and not repeating it. I didn't really like this game that much.

I never thought about how you can predict what type of baby you are going to have. I mean it is kind of obvious if someone would ask you The game was easy and was not fun. I would have liked it if you had to predict what type of baby and have harder challenges. I did not really like this game.

I agree with Joe. This would be a point for nature on the nature vs nurture debate.

This game was really fun! I beat it though. I agree with Joe this would be good for the N v. N debate. I didn't really understand what some of it meant. What does recessive mean? Anyway it was really fun.

This was really fun to do! We learned about the genes of the things. BUT... I agree with Cypress and Ava D. that it kind of in someways has no point to it, but it is fun. I looked it up on a dictionary and it said that recessive meant: Genetics relating to or denoting heritable characteristics controlled by genes that are expressed in offspring only when inherited from both parents, i.e., when not masked by a dominant characteristic inherited from one parent.

This was a really fun game. I think it was about probability, but I am unsure. I guess it was aso about genetics and why some genetics went through to the baby more than other. Like Gillian, Max and Joe said, this would help nature for the Nature vs. Nurture debate.

Alaman said...

It was fun because with the challenges you had to figure out how to get a certain gene to be dominant in the baby. It was a good game. Thank you for this Jordan.

I agree with Ava D. This really didn't have a point for me. I mean, I guess it could sort of be about probability and/or genetics, but I thought overall it was kind of pointless. It was fun though! I also agree with Joe, Cypress, Max, Gillian and Emory. This would have been great to have in our debates for Nature vs. Nurture. Overall, I really thought that it was kind of pointless yet fun/cool at the same time.

Those thingies are so cute! However, the gene structure was interesting, but they should have gone into more detail. Also, I am not sure about this fact, but I don't think that the gene prediction is random. However, to improve this game gamewise, I would seriosly improve the graphics.

I liked this game, but I thought it was too easy. It was interesting how they showed you the probabilities with the genes and how some were recessive and some were dominant, but the fact that they gave you the probabilities was what made it to easy. I finished the game in about 10 minutes, but I still had a good time playing it. (The things were really cute!!)

I think this was very interesting and really fun!!! I agree with Esther about how it was very easy to achieve the goals and get new worlds. I did like the fact that it was an interactive game and very fun!! I learned a lot about recessive and dominant genes and how they work while having fun with it!

I thought this game was really weird. I liked learning about dominant and recessive genes. I thought it was really easy. I didn't like how they gave you a choice of children to take. I agree with Joe. This would have been good for our Nature vs. Nurture debate. The Things were cute, but this game was not very fun. I also agree with Ava. They should have repeated some of the more important information instead of just moving ahead.

I think that this game is really fun. Even though it is kind of weird it is still a good way to learn about genes while having fun. I also think that this game is really fun because you get to learn about how the genes mate and how many of them come. Also you get to see what color it is going to be and what shape. This is a really cool game and you get to predict what and how you want your baby gene to look like. The only thing that I thought that was sort of weird about this game is that they didn't get enough information about the different genes. This game is really fun and I would recommend it to anyone.

I really thought this web site was interesting. And although it took a while to do (30 minutes) I still had a lot of fun doing it. I liked the choices you could make between parents and children. I also thought it was interesting that you bred your own Thing. I had Spore when I was younger, and this definitely reminded me of it. I learned a lot about genetics and how a baby is male, female, big or small. It was interesting how the combination is random though. I was working on an independent study with Will, and I noticed that they should have mentioned the independent genes as well. I also liked the Things! They were so cute!

Sergio said...

Anthony, the game 'Spore' doesn't relate to the article. Even though you evolve a creature in 'Spore', it doesn't go into the evolution process in detail and the next evolution is not random to a certain degree. Also, only 2 of the 5 levels in 'Spore' have to do with biogenetic evolution.

This is a fun interactive that will have many people playing. It definately shows how dominant and recessive genes play a role in how the baby comes out.

This game was so fun! I named the things however I wanted. It was fun way of learning about dominant and recessive genes. I found it especially easy to do challenges though. Even though it was fun, what was the point? I agree with Joe, it would of given us some great pointers for our nature vs. nurture debate.

Luca said...

The Things were cute, but I named one after me and it was very embarrassing. I still don't understand how recessive genes work.

Molly said...

The things were so cute! I liked playing just to see how the babies would turn out, and the challenges, although easy, were kind of fun. Unlike a lot of people, I did see the point of the game: it was meant to teach about genetics. Did any of you who were complaining about it think that it might be meant for younger kids?

Emma said...

I think that recessive genes mean that the baby can later mate with another Thing and they can produce a baby with the characteristics of the recessive genes. For example, if you mate two things and end up with a tiny baby that has a gigantic recessive gene, I think that that means that when you mate that baby with another Thing, the baby has a percentage chance of ending up gigantic. The percentage chance has to do with what kind of Thing you mate it with. I think that that is why if you mate a normal-sized Thing with another normal-sized Thing, you can get a tiny Thing.

I really like when they post interactive blog posts. I agree with Emory that the goals were easy to achieve and at points it felt like there was not exactly a point of this game. It did teach about the reproductive genes and the science behind those. I do prefer the games where we get to preform surgery, but this was pretty fun.

Cooper said...

I think this is very interesting, and quite fun as well. I thought how interesting it is how babies get dominant/recessive genes from their parents at random. I thought it was a little bit weird, but I liked feeding and brushing the things. I though it was also cool that I could see the possibilities of the dominant/recessive genes when choosing a mate.

Cooper said...

Also, CAN IT TAKE ANY LONGER TO LOAD?

Robert said...

I think that this game is really cool. It's interesting how this game teaches about the reproductive genes. This game is similar to a one I have played before. I agree with Cooper, this game takes a long time to load. I'm glad we have a fun blog to see new things everyday.

Cool game. This really shows how genes say everything about the looks of a person. Take that nurture people.

This game is quite confusing. It is a lot like real life. It makes me think of dog breeders, the way you pick and choose what things to breed based on genes. I sort of feel sorry for the things that you don't choose when you're breeding. It gives you 5 baby things, and you only get to keep one. Also, the thing grows really quickly when you say you want to mate it. That isn't realistic. None of the animals that I know of are small until they want to mate. I mean, there are these birds, and the males all have giant red throat sacs that make big honking sounds when they are inflated to attract females. That brings me to another point. The things don't have any genders. That is just not natural. If there is one unrealistic thing about this game that should be changed, it is that they don't have genders. I can sort of understand their reasoning behind it though. It would be harder to breed things if there were genders. Lets say you found the perfect thing, but it was of the same gender of your Thing. You'd have to spend another 15 minutes looking for an opposite gender of the Thing you want. This brings up another point. I wish that you could change things right after you click "I Want to Mate". Sometimes I want to change Things because I've found the perfect mate for a different Thing than what I have about to mate. Or I don't want to mate that Thing anymore. Both of these Things have annoyed me when I am playing this game. I think that this game was created to teach people about genes, and the ways to breed them.
