Wow this is really cool. I can't believe that the Vietnamese scientists actually did this. This ping pong android could be very popular. Though I have seen many robots before and I really doubt that it will be a success because I have seen many, many robots before. All of them have been extremely slow. Ping pong is a game of speed and reaction. A thing of which this robot might not have is speed.

I thought this was really cool. I was very excited to read this article because I really like Ping-Pong and I play at school (sometimes), with my stepdad, and my stepbrother.

Wow! I wonder who thought of this... it just seems like such a weird robot to make! What I mean is, what does this robot help with? It's a great invention, and I'm amazed at how they can get it to play such a fast sport, but I just feel like this robot could somehow be used in a more productive way. a 6 foot, 264 pound robot, just to play ping-pong. A robot that size could probably knock someone unconscious, and could be used as a guard of some kind. It seems very intimidating...

I think it is a great invention, but I don't think it is possible for this robot to play as good as a real human because it cant move fast enough. I think it is great that they used 200 fps cameras as well.

Now, the only thing that the robot needs to be truly human is an ego.

Sergio said...

I disagree with Jameson. The robot could be used for militaristic purposes but that would be bad. The strife of sending human's to war is the only thing stopping countries from attacking each other. Without humans on the battlefield, it would no longer be inhumane to go to war. If that happens, there will be nothing holding people at an opposition with war.

I thought that was a cool article. I agree with Jameson and disagree with Sergio. Personally, I would do anything to stop war. I think it is a horrible way to fight. I think they should use those robots. They are amazing. Also, I thought it's ping pong skills were cool.

I thought this was a very cool article! I think this is cool because there has never really been anything like this. I found it interesting it could play such a fast sport (if your playing against someone good).

This is really cool. I think it is weird that the scientists would make a ping-pong robot. I play ping-pong at my home, so I found this article very interesting. I think it will be very difficult to actually improve the robot so that it will actually beat someone in a game. It would be really cool if they actually made the robot to do household chores and maybe even helping me with my homework.

I think that this robot is a great invention, but the problem is that it is around 250 pounds. Now I don't know anyone who is 250 pounds- or even close. If I did, they probably would be to heavy to play ping-pong. Maybe if the used a lighter material it might win some matches.

I thought that this was really cool, but it would be even cooler for it to be like your personal assistant that gets you whatever you want. :) But like Jameson and Cami said, it could be used for better purposes. But on the other hand, this is pretty cool. I mean, I can't believe that the Vietnamese scientists actually created it just to play ping pong.

I thought this was very interesting. First of all, I agree with Sergio that if the robots were for war, war would become less of a big deal and would happen more frequently. However, another problem with it is, with a large unemployment rate already, having a robot do things that could be jobs for actual people will cause a larger rate than before. I do think it is an amazing advancement in technology, and I am excited to see if it improves and can be used for things that humans can not do under any circumstances, thus being useful but not taking up jobs.

Will said...

This is really awesome. If this technology progresses, we could be being tought by robots instead of Ms. Ghazarian russian style. From Sergio's point of view (politician's), This could help the Vietnamese in a militaristic fashion.

Chloe said...

Even though this robot is totally awesome, it's completely pointless. This would be so cool to play in a game against him. Those materials and brains would be better for something of use. I like playing ping-pong a lot, so I am not totally against it

Cypress said...

Wow! This is so awesome! I can't believe someone could have designed a robot with cameras to sense the ball and react to it so fast! I think this could be used for much better things, such as people with disabilities. It would be cool if it got so high-tech that it could be like an aid to people with disabilities. This is really cool.

This was really cool. The article was short, so there was not tons of information on this new robot, but the info they did have sounded truthful. If they could ever achieve their goal of making the robot do other things than playing Ping Pong I think that would make the robot even cooler and more people would buy it. This is a cool scientific discovery!

Although Will was slightly correct when he said that the Vietnamese should use them for war, it would be a waste of money. Vietnam has no enemies and it is allied with China.

I would get this robot for household things, but only if it came in green. Also, they should try on making it smaller. My dad is 6 foot but he's not that fat. I'm not sure if I would want something that big in my room. It will probably be a long time until these are out on the market but when they are open for public use, I think they will be pretty popular.

Kevin said...

I have always believed that robot technology has been very successful, but not to this degree! I think it's amazing how they made him. Also, I agree with Jameson that they should put him to a more productive use, rather than just playing ping pong.

Ava S. said...

I sort of agree with it being with war but I sort of don't. First of all, it would be good in war because it would be less humans dying. Besides, a ping-pong playing robot isn't really that useful especially if it can't even beat a human. However, this might not be the best idea because I'm guessing this robot was very expensive to make and then it would be completely destroyed in battle. Also, how good would it do fighting a battle if it can't even beat a person in table tennis? Maybe if they took this robot and tweaked it so it was trained to do something more useful maybe it could be a guard or something of that caliber. I also agree with Gillian that it should be smaller than it is. It would be like having one more person in the house. And we don't know if it is clumsy and would knock things down or not. If it did, it would not be safe in a house given its size.

This articles doesn't make any sense. If they built this robot but it hasn't won a match, than why isn't it just a motor controlling the arm randomly? However, it is a good idea and has a cool design.

Sergio said...

This innovation is amazing but it's annoying that they didn't put information like how much energy it consumes or how it notices what will happen next when used for Ping-Pong. I agree that the robot isn't being used effectively. Why should it do things that humans can do. Why can't they program it to do things that humans can't.

Sergio said...

Why would they build the robot to look like a human?

Luca said...

I can understand how it would be awesome for everyone to have a ping-pong champion in their home, then they could pit robot vs. robot. However, I don't see how a "terminator" would do well in household chores. Maybe as a flyswatter. Hahaha. But I also think that Ava S. has a point. If the 'Bane of Flies' isn't accurate enough to thwack a fly on a window, that would be very bad for the owners of the house.

Luca said...

I disagree with Sergio's second post about disagreeing with Jameson's idea about disagreement. The nations would still hesitate to go to war because think of how much it would cost to sent a 6 foot 264 pound android to the battlefield. And to think that tens could be blown up by a single bomb. I doubt that any nations would risk that until it becomes less expensive.

Luca said...

Sergio, how do you know those things about Vietnam? However, maybe they won't create them for themselves, maybe they'll manufacture them for their allies, or they'll just sell them around the world.
