I know that sugar is not good for you and makes your blood pressure and cholesterol levels go up, but I think banning things with added sugar is a little far-fetched, because almost everything has sugar. I agree that sugar is detrimental to your health but I think they have gone a little sugar cannot cause obesity. If you become addicted and keep having it, then you can become overweight. I think it's really sad that half of the people in the U.S. are obese and two thirds are overweight. I can't believe on average Americans consume more than 600 calories per day because of added sugar.
I thought that this was going a little overboard, as Cypress said. I know sugar is bad for people esp. if they eat too much, but banning sugar and products with sugar in/on them is too much. Almost everything that we eat has sugar in it; it would be too hard to have sugar banned altogether. Like Cypress said (again!), I thought it was really sad and horrible that most people in the United States are obese or overweight.
I think that most people probably know that sugar can cause blood pressure, increased cholesterol, along with your risk for liver failure, obesity, heart disease and diabetes due to eating too much sugar due to all the information available to us now as consumers. However, I think it is up to each individual to decide how many calories/sugar they want to eat. If someone becomes obese, it is their choice and with it comes consequences. I think people need to be responsible for their choices and then accept the consequences.
Everyone knows that sugar is not good for you, but as Cypress and Amanda said, banning it is going way overboard. People should be able to eat whatever they want if they are aware of the consequences. I think instead of banning sugar, they should just run television commercials or something like that saying that people should eat less sugar. For example, there is a billboard near my house that counts every time a person dies from smoking every day. Sadly, it is at a huge number, making people stop smoking realizing what it will do to them. I think they should have a sign like that up for the sugar obesity. That would get people to stop, but it wouldn't be too pushy because banning it is just way too much. Anyway, I think banning sugar is a little crazy.
Even though sugar is bad for you, a little bit is okay, and it is when you eat a lot of it that you start to have health problems. But too much of anything is bad. I think that it is perfectly fine to eat a little sugar, and they shouldn't ban it, but people should know how much sugar they should eat and what will happen if they eat too much. But there will probably still be a problem, because everyone already knows that sugar is bad for you, but we eat too much anyway because we have pretty much no self-control, and that is just human nature, we can't do much about that. Since people won't start eating less sugar on their own, somebody still has to do something, but banning sugar is still a little too much. Maybe they should make a rule that products can only have this much added sugar in them, or that people can only purchase this many products with added sugar at a time. If they did make the rule about how much added sugar can be a product, then that sugar would add up, and people might be eating less and less sugar. If they did make the rule about how many products with added sugar you can purchase at a time, it might discourage people from eating so much sugar and/or discourage companies from adding sugar to their products. I'm not sure if either of those ideas would work, but my point is that banning sugar is too much, but we still have to do something about the obese problem we are having.
I agree with Samantha, I think that you make the choice you get the consequence. Anyway, there is natural sugar in fruit, so are they saying they want to ban fruit. Hmm. Maybe they can make their own little country or make a religion like buddhism or something that bans overdoses of sugar. Buddhism is really like a way of life, like they are all vegetarians, so maybe they could just be sugartarians.
Sugar IS dangerous, just I don't think it is as dangerous as they let on. Maybe they should give you pills along with the sugar, so you can eat it, and then take the pills in order to work off the sugar.

It's okay to eat some sugar, just not 2 gummi-bear packs a day. In small quantities it's okay, but in large amounts you get kooky.
