Fatty foods taste good but can take a toll on your health. A new study in rats found that high-fat diets create the urge to overeat. Credit: Renee Comet (photographer), National Cancer Institute
I find this article very interesting. I had some background knowledge on this topic, but this article's subject was new to me. I would like to point out, first, that on the plate picture, sugars and fats weren't even on the plate as a food group. I watched a movie called Forks over Knives, which talked about obesity and heart attacks. It said that a vegan diet could prevent, and even reverse, cancer. Also, referring to both the article and the nature vs. nurture debate, only around 15% of all cases of obesity and heart attacks were genetic. Also relating to the topic of over-eating, it is the same in the case of liquids and salt: if you eat salt, you'll get really thirsty. Many parents think that salt is extremely bad for you, but I don't know why. Would any of you guys would be willing to explain that?
I also think that this article was really interesting. It's very interesting that marijuana and fats have the same effect on your body: They both make you eat too much.
But Sinclaire: Marinjuna is a drug, and it's after-effect is "the munchies." Therefore, it could be the same chemical, but it could just have an after-effect on the stomach.
I also find this article interesting. I've always known that fats are bad for your body, but I've only thought of it as being bad for you body, and never thought of it as effecting your diet. After reading the article, I think eating fats is more like a chain effect- the more you eat fats, the more you want to eat, the more you want to eat, the more you eat fats, and so on. Also, Ben, i find your fact about a vegan diet being able to prevent, and even reverse cancer interesting. I've always thought of a vegan diet being good for your body, but never that good. Perhaps I'll start thinking about a healthier diet for myself.
I also find this article very interesting. I also have background knowledge on this post. I have two books on dietary health but I still never knew that fats could affect hunger. I also really enjoyed this article because it explained how certain chemicals affect hunger, and Ben, this is just a guess but I think parents actually think too much salt is bad for you
This article is interesting in so many ways. One is that, I had no clue that fats and marijuana both encourage the "munchies." I think it would be a big breakthrough, if scientists discover a pill or shot to cure the cause of the munchies
I find this article very interesting as well. As Sinclaire said, I think it's interesting that both a drug and different types of food can have the same chemical that has the same effect on your body, but it is true that marijuana has a smaller effect on your body than fats, because it is only a side effect of the whole drug, but with fats, the need to eat more is the only thing it causes. Ben, about your salt question, I think some parents believe that the salt absorbs too much liquid in your body, and it's true that drinking seawater, which is saltwater, can lead to kidney disease. So it is possible that salt can be bad for you, but only in large amounts.
I found this article very informative. I would think that drugs would have a larger affect but fat does. I never knew that fats could affect your over all eating habits. I learned a lot from this article.
I had no idea that fats could encourage overeating. I always knew fats are bad for you. Don't eat to much. I thought that how marijuana sometimes causes people to get the "munchies". I thought that drugs would have a bigger impact on people that fatty foods, like Alex G. said. This article was very helpful and I learned a lot from it.
I thought that this article was very interesting. I always thought that eating fatty foods would just make you gain weight. I also thought that people craved fatty foods because they just taste so good! The part about how marijuana creates THC and how it is so similar to endocannabinoids is so interesting. I loved how the words cannabis and endocannabinoids are so similar. I agree with Alex G. and Amanda. I thought that drugs would have more effect on our body, but apparently not. I am excited to see how our society would change if there actually would be a pill that could help people stop eating so much. I think that all of the ones that you see in commercials on television are just fake. You could say that they are pseudoscientific.
Don't the words Cannabis, and cannibal sound alike as well, so I would guess that cann- would be the Latin root for eat, or fat. On the salt comment, doesn't salt dry out your kidneys? And also, what if they created an artificial salt which still tasted salty, but didn't dry you out. What if a hypnosis site was posted online, and when you watched the video, it would make you want to stop eating fatty foods. By the way, does anyone know if Marijuana is illegal?
This article is interesting, and it is very believable that fats make you eat more. Though the main topic does make sense and I believe it, some of the facts are wrong. I also saw the movie Ben saw, and it says that milk is not good for you. That is just a detail though and overall I like the article. I also think it's interesting that merijuana and fats have a similar type of affect on your body. This article is on of the many reasons fats are bad for you.
Although I like the rest of the article, I disagree with the fact that you could use a pill to cure the effects of fat. If you take a pill it may have side affects, and even if it doesn't it's not a natural way to cure something. Also you shouldn't eat too many fats at all regularly. It causes so many problems that aren't related to this topic, and this pill would only help one problem. Also, its always better to cure yourself with a heathy diet. That's what the title "Forks over Knives" means Forks are what you use to eat and knives means a surgery which is unnatural similar to pills.

I think that this article is very interesting. I think that it is interesting, and kind of funny, that eating can make you hungrier. I always thought that fatty foods were just unhealthy for you, but from this article, I learned that fats do more than just that. Since fatty foods encourage over eating, fatty foods make you even more overweight than you would think. I always thought of drugs as terrible and illegal things that cause horrible and serious side effects, but fatty foods have the same chemicals in them as marijuana, so they both encourage over eating, but over eating isn't too serious, so I guess not all drugs have serious side effects.
They should include something that says if the rats were running around or doing any other sort of exercise because then they might not have thought of the variable of protein buildup. I didn't watch Ben's movie but I did watch one called "super size me" in which somebody used himself as a test subject as he stayed for 30 days on a high-fat diet without ever augmenting the amount of he ate.
This article was very interesting. I never knew that eating makes you eat more, and that fatty foods support you to over eat. Which is kind of the same thing.
Isn't the fat cycle kind of like an infinite loop? so the more you eat the more you want to eat and the more you want to eat the more you eat and the fatter you get, and then you become so fat you can't exercise anymore and you're stuck as a big, fat blob of a human.
I knew before that fats could make you fat, but I didn't know why. Now with this article I feel that if the entire US population read this article then the average weight would go down by a lot.
I knew before that fats could make you fat, but I didn't know why. Now with this article I feel that if the entire US population read this article then the average weight would go down by a lot.
I think the article was very interesting. I hope that they come up with the pill/shot to help cure obesity soon because that is something that many people have to deal with in America. I always knew that fat was bad for you, but the fact that it makes you want to eat more was new to me. I think it's really interesting, and it really makes me want to start eating a lot less fat then I was before. I think a way to make the fat not encourage the "munchies" as much is to just eat fatty foods after dinner, and not eat anything else after that. And Luca, your post is really creepy.
I think that this article is very informative. Although I knew that fatty foods and unhealthy foods made you want to eat more and crave them, I learned lots of new stuff. I can see how this works, though. For example, if someone eats a lot of sugar, your tastes buds crave it and pretty soon a little bit of sugar you can't even taste, so you need lots of it to be able to taste it. I thought it was very interesting to find out the scientific side of it, though. I definitely believe that they could make a pill to help overeating, based on how far people have come.
I found this article very interesting. I myself wouldn't take the drug, because I think that America should learn to eat everything in moderation. I did find the article very informative because I didn't know that when you eat fat foods you constantly want to eat more.
I think that this article was very interesting. The article was very true in many ways. I have always thought that fatty foods caused hunger but I didn't know why. This satisfied me in way that is great. It gave me extra information the topic.
I thought the article was very interesting, however I when I read through it I wasn't surprised about fats encouraging overeating. Think of it this way. If you eat a high fat candy bar, and it tastes good, you're going to want another. However, what did surprise me is that the endocannabinoids are what spark the overeating. I thought it was the human mind processing the good taste, and effectively wanting more. However, I think that the pill to block the endocannabinoids is a great idea, however it doesn't seem believable. I don't think that it will just stop overeating, there will probably be some major "side effects." a Also, on the fact of marijuana, I knew it was addictive, however I find it intriguing that it causes the munchies, which I thought to be a strange side effect to an illegal drug. Luca, marijuana is illegal.

This article was very surprising. What I thought was kind of wierd was the fact that eating fats would want to make you eat more. Ya sugar and fats aren't that healthy so what I try to eat is mostly fruits and vegtables. But if you just eat healthy stuff and get no exersice, you don't really get healthy.
I think this article is very interesting especially because kids like to eat fattening foods. Eating fattening foods, cause a person to crave more fattening foods, which will increase your chances of obesity. Scientists have proven that when you eat fattening foods, your endocannabinoids are activated. When your endocannabinoids are activated, all you want to do is eat and eat and eat and eat. This is important so that parents learn not to feed their children so many fats, and encourage their kids to eat a diet balanced with Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Proteins, Dairy, and minimal fat. This is probably why the parents decided to change the Dominos Pizza to Amichis.
On Emma's comment, Marinjuna is an item you smoke. It gives you black lung and the muchies. However, marinjuna is not illegal (I think) but companies are required by law to add warnings for addiction and black lung.
I think what Caroline said about the movie title is wrong. Wouldn't it be "Forks over Knives" and forks is for fruits and vegetables, and knives is for cake and giant cookies. So Forks should be over knives.

sorry i accidently posted my comment twice.

I think this article is true because you have control to eat what you want to and what you don't. So if you eat fatty foods who will gain more weight.
Nice comment Kevin fats are bad for your body if you keep on eating them.
