It is amazing how big the universe is. We are so small in comparison!

I never knew that their were so many thing beyond the earth. We are so small in comparison to others. Such as, Jupiter,Neptune, or the sun.

It is really funny to think about how small we are in the universe. Sometimes people think that Earth is all there is and forget about everything else, but there is a whole big universe out there and we are only a small spec in the whole scheme of things.

Oh my god! I cant believe that Earth was only a pixel in comparison to the rest. The largest star made our Sun look like a spherical asteroid.

It's fascinating to think that, despite our small comparison to other planets and stars, we are perhaps the only planet in space that supports life.

I can't believe how small we are! Just think, we think that an ant is small, and a skyscraper is big. Well, an ant is microscopic in the big picture, and so is a skyscraper! This video made me fell small. I wonder how far we have explored into space? What is the farthest galaxy? Now I'm terrified to be an astronaut.

It's kind of interesting that the sun is gigantic compared to Earth. 1,300,000 Earths can fit in the sun. And yet, compared to other stars, the sun is considerably small.

Oh My Gosh!!! I can't believe how GIANT that last star that they showed was! It's really crazy how it would take a passenger plane about 1,000 years to circle this! It would be really interesting if we could see that star in person, because if we think earth is large, I can't believe what we would think about the Red Hypergiant!

Wow. We are living on such a small little planet in a huge universe. Although we think that Earth is big, and although it is, compared to some of the biggest stars out there, we are nothing. At the end of the video, how they showed us that Earth was the size of a pixel, if they showed what we were in the scheme of things, you probably could not even see a dot. I find that it is amazing that somehow we have not found other life somewhere in our universe. It would probably be the biggest discovery in mankind's whole history, if we found aliens. What would they look like? How would they react? There are many questions left unanswered about our universe, and hope we find some more answers.

OMG! That is one big star! I still can't believe it would talk 1100 years to circle the star once! That's insane! Ya. It made Earth look like a little pixel compared to the largest star! That size chart is awesome. I thought that the sun was the biggest star. But boy was I wrong!!! I'm guessing that the biggest star is 500 or 5,000 times bigger than our sun. Maybe even bigger. I always thought that we were the center of the universe. But b oy was I wrong!!! Once again!

We are so small compared to so many planets. I never heard of a lot of star they are mentioning. Earth was so small compared to the star VY Canis Majoris (red hypergiant). It may sound strange, but I thought that there was only one galaxy existing.

Sorry I posted my comment twice.

Wow i can't believe that there's really a huge ball of fire surrounding us human beings .This what i think it is pretty cool to have the sun around

I loved the music, sound effects, and how dramatic it was! It is so cool that a plane would have to fly for 1100 years non-stop to go around the biggest star once. How are those even stars? I love how they put a little dot as earth and compared it to the biggest star. YOU ARE NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE was one of my favorite parts. It reminded me of Mrs. Otto's chant after every time we sang happy birthday to someone, YOU ARE THE CENTER OF OUR UNIVERSE. I'm amazed at the guy who found all of this out. And there's still something that is bigger that that huge star? I almost can't believe it.

I don't really know what you could do without the sun in our planet otherwise all it would be is a dark world where no one could see anybody. It is extremely creepy.

Robert said...

Wow! I knew that there were more suns and stars out there, but this is crazy. Our whole entire planet of Earth compared to all of these places. I feel bad for the real ants

Chloe said...

WOW! This clip is amazing. The biggest star we know of is probably microscopic to other stars that we haven't discovered yet. I couldn't believe how small and tiny we actually are. This shocked me that about a million earths were equivalent to the sun. Compared the the other stars, the sun is tiny.

Kevin said...

Remember, all of this is in comparison. There are definitely stars that make the Red Hypergiant look like Earth compared to the Red Hypergiant, and other stars that make those stars look microscopic. However, I also wonder what the smallest star or planet would be.

Sinclaire said...

That is so cool! It was especially cool when it showed the size of Earth compared to the biggest known star! Just a tiny speck the size of this period. From our perspective, Earth is enormous, but really, it's microscopic compared to the universe. I liked how they lined up all the planets and stars according to size, so you could really see how big they are.

Luca Pistor said...

This is so creepy! It is strange to imagine that all of the stars, with their cool names like Alpha Centauri and Arctarus, there is always a bigger star. If one of those imploded, there would be a pretty big black hole out in space.

Sinclaire said...

I also liked the music and sound effects!

This is really amazing! I had never thought that the universe was so big. Kevin is right, I bet there are stars far away that make the Red Hypergiant look like Earth compared to the Red Hypergiant. This was a great video.

Jameson said...

Wooaahhhh I paused the video right when it turned to the Red Hypergiant, and the sun was so small compared to it, that the sun was pretty much a speck. Can you imagine if we had the Red Hypergiant as our light source instead the sun? We would all be blinded.

Emory said...

This video is so cool! The planets keep getting bigger even though you think they can not get any bigger. I think it was really cool to see the size comparison with VY Canis Majoris and Earth.

Lola said...

This video really makes you think. People on Earth get so caught up in the smallest little things, but really it doesn't matter. Everything is relative. Bugs are huge compared to bacteria, but think about how big the moon is in comparison to bugs, and how big Canis Majoris is compared to the moon. It is completely beyond our imagination the size difference between bacteria and Canis Majoris! I just can't wrap my mind around the fact that the universe goes on for infinity.

David said...

Like Aaron says, there’s a whole big universe out there! The size comparisons are hard to even imagine. About a million earths can fit inside our sun. About a billion of our suns can fit inside VY Canis Majoris. A quadrillion earths can fit inside VY Canis Majoris. VY Canis Majoris is the largest star in our observable universe, but there are definitely bigger ones out there!

David said...

If our sun were any bigger, or any closer, or any farther away from the earth, we wouldn’t be here. It would be much too hot or cold for life. Also, without our sun, there would be no life on earth as we know it. We're extremely lucky to be here!

Chazzy Cotton said...

If we think that the world is huge we are wrong. If you think our galaxy is large your wrong. We truly know about only one galaxy and there are so many more to discover.

Amanda said...

Wow! We must be like smaller than a piece of dust in the universe. It was really funny to see that the sun is tiny compared to that last star that they showed us. I thought it was really cool how Earth was just a pixel. This video was very interesting to watch.

Robert said...

That last sun was huge!!! I can't believe the comparison between earth and that last sun. I thought that there were only a few suns discovered but I guess there are a lot.

Caroline said...

We are super small. Even our sun is a million ( and I don't mean a million literally) times smaller than the biggest star. Actually from what i've heard I'm surprised that it only takes 1100 years to circle that star on an airplane even though that is a LONG time. If you ever feel like your too tall watch that video and it will make you not think so anymore. When we think of the earth in comparison to us, we think of it as such a gigantic thing, but when we think of it compared to the sun or other stars then we think of it as super tiny. Everything is can be big or small in comparison. For all we know there might be something that thinks of an atom as as big as a red hyperstar. This is because things can get bigger forever. (I am pretty sure.) I wonder what the dot would look like on the biggest star if it was representing us, not the earth. We might not be able to see that. It isn't really fair to say we are so small or we are so big. You can say either and it will be true because if you are saying it in comparison with an atom then we will say we are huge. If you say it in comparison with a super star well then you say we are tiny. Everything is tiny compared to something and everything is huge compared to something. A hyper star is tiny compared to the whole universe.

I thought the video was very cool how it showed us that even if you took a 900kph plane and tried to fly it around, it would take 1,100 years. To me, before I watched the video I thought the earth was big, (well not compared to Jupiter, The Sun, and the supernovas I already knew about) now I relize that we are like a tiny grain of salt compared to the red hypergiant VY Canis Majoris.

Ethan said...

Compared to our universe, our galaxy is like a speck, compared to our galaxy, our solar system is a speck, compared to our solar system, earth is a speck, and compared to the earth, we are specks. So we're basically a bunch of specks living on a speck in a speck in another speck in the middle of the universe. Therefore, we are nothing. The good thing is that now Kevin doesn't look so big compared to me.

Emma said...

I always think of Earth as being really big, but I guess that's just because people are a lot smaller than Earth. I knew that there were a lot of other planets that were bigger than Earth, and that the sun was a lot bigger than all the planets, but I didn't realize that the sun was also very very small compared to the rest of the stars. A lot of the other stars were so much bigger than the sun. It is very interesting that these other stars are so huge but they are so far away, so to us, they just look like little specks.

Colin said...

Wooaaahhhhh.... I actually laughed during this video :P. I can't believe how many other stars there are that are bigger then the sun... Just imagine having that as our light source... :). My favorite part was when it said, "YOU ARE NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE!", and when I saw neptune compared to us I was amazed, but then I saw the Red Hypergiant and I was just freaked out...And I also find it very interesting that it would take over 1000 years to circle it once! Now I'd like to see a comparison of one of us to that giant star....

alex said...

The red hyper giant is so big

Jason said...

I can't believe how big that hypergiant was. There is no way that it takes 1,100 years for a plane to fly non-stop around that star. And to think that there are even bigger ones out there. I love when it said,"YOU ARE NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE!"

Jordan said...

It's like the realit of Horton Hears a Hoo

Alex G. said...

It is crazy how small we are in comparison to the whole universe! Jupiter, Neptune and the Sun are so much bigger! It is insane that we are only a tiny thing in the universe.

Amanda said...

This video made me feel extra, extra, extra... small. I even feel small compared to Ava D.! I can't believe that a plane would take 1100 years to go around the last and biggest star. This video was amazing and very interesting. I wonder how the guy figured everything out. Every time, I feel like they can't make the stars/planets any bigger, but they somehow find a way to do it.

Will said...

I hate this!!!!!!!

I wonder if a plane could survive the extreme heat coming off of the Hyper giant stars.
