Every model of the universe has some kind of hypothetical matter or particle. Sometimes it’s hard to prove that the hypothetical particle exists because it’s extremely small or invisible, and it’s hard to study. Sometimes they don’t have the technology to measure how fast a particle can move. Scientists are like detectives who are trying to solve a mystery. They don’t know how the universe works, and they don’t have all the clues. It’s impossible to get all of the evidence because the universe is so big, and there’s a lot they don’t know. So they study the universe and make up theories. Sometimes they make up hypothetical clues when they don’t have real clues.

I’ve thought about how big the universe is, but I’ve never thought about the shape of the universe. There are three probable shapes: an open universe, a flat universe, and a closed plane of space-time. For each of these shapes there is a theory of how the universe will end. It’s strange to think about the universe ending. There will be no more life on earth and maybe no earth.
