A newly discovered planet is eerily similar to Earth and is sitting
outside our solar system in what seems to be the ideal place for life.
The planet's confirmation was announced Monday by NASA along with other
Kepler telescope discoveries. (Dec. 5)

Cool! I guess scientist are not quite sure if it is actually a planet, though...
Although this may sound exciting at first, I'm pretty sure scientists have said that they have found a habitable planet a couple of times before. After all, I could be wrong about this, but I think that the chances of there being a truly habitable planet is really low. Even if it was habitable, we couldn't do much about it. It's not like a couple billion people could jump on a spaceship and live there.
It’s exciting to think about life outside the solar system. But it takes much more than a planet that’s the right size, the right distance from a star (that’s about the size of our sun), and the right temperature to support life as we know it. Scientists don’t even know if Kepler-22b has a surface, if it has liquid water, if it has an atmosphere, or if it has a magnetic field to protect it from solar winds (if its mass is equal or larger than the earth’s). Even if all of these conditions are met, this planet could have life forms that are completely unrecognizable and different from life on earth.
