I think that wind energy is very promising, although I think that solar is better. My house converted to solar power and now we don't have to pay anything for electricity. Also, there have been multiple storms since they were installed last year, and we have not had to repair them. So, this proves that solar energy is better. Another thing is that you lose a lot of energy when transporting it, so if the wind turbines are far away so that people don't hurt their ears, then you lose a lot of energy. If every building got solar panels then it wouldn't matter because they don't make noise so it could be very close to where it was needed and very little energy would be lost. Another thing is that the sun will be around for billions more years, so solar energy is always guaranteed, while wind energy is not.

This reminds me of a documentary where there were intelligent life forms who lived on a planet near enough to a black hole that they could harness its energy, and far enough that they wouldn't get sucked in. It would be really cool living right next to a black hold. We would have near infinite energy and a giant trash can to drop stuff in. Also, I agree with Gillian that solar power is better than wind energy

Gillian, I agree with you. Although there are more pros on wind energy than there are cons, I think solar is probably the better way to go. My house also installed solar power, for our pool and the house. This way I can go in a heated pool without having to pay to heat it. One of the best things about wind energy is it's constantly going, unlike things like oil and gas. Also, it can be done in almost every place, and is not nearly as expensive as other energy sources. One of the bad things is that the windmills and things that produce the energy might be just as expensive as gas or other things that produce energy.

I went to palm springs recently, and there is a stretch of road there that on either side, it's covered in hundreds, perhaps thousands, of wind turbines. Another thing that I observed was that only about 10% of them were spinning, and the odd thing was that there were about two in every row that were spinning just fine, probably generating lots of energy, while the ones on either side were at a complete stop. This was probably happening because the owners did not have enough money to take care of things. Another thing that I noticed was that they were all built in the middle of nowhere, probably due to the noise level. Also, the picture on the cover of this article depicted wind turbines in the ocean, which is a good idea because of two things. The noise they make is no problem, and there is unobstructed wind.

I agree with you Gillian, There are a more pros in wind energy then disadvantages. There are only one or two things that I don't like about it. One of them is that it kills birds. It is very sad that they die. The other thing is that there will not always be wind, so like the article says you can't have something that is completely based on wind. From what I hear it is likely that solar energy is better then wind energy but I am not really sure. like Gwen said there are wind turbines near pom springs. I have noticed too that only some of them are spinning. I wonder why only some of them are spinning because they all are getting the same amount of wind. I think that wind energy is a good source, and it is definately better that what we are using now, but we can't rely on it entirely. There are other natural resources that we can use like solar power. I agree with Gillian that transporting the wind is a problem, and it is bad having it near because of the noise.

The important question is not, “Is wind energy or solar energy better?” What’s important is finding alternatives to fossil fuels, coal and nuclear energy which cause major pollution and hurt our environment. The article say that wind energy works in harmony with other methods, such as solar and geothermal heating. All the methods have pros and cons. Different methods work best in different situations. Like Caroline said, I hope they find a way of protecting the birds from the turbine blades.
