The ocean dumps literally tons of plastic trash on Hawaii’s Kamilo Beach each year.

I think this article was really amazing in a scary way. It is really sad to think all the trash piled up from the ocean. And it could get up to 10 feet tall. But is in nice to think that people come to clean the beach to make it a little better. I think this article was a eye opener to see how bad our waste has gotten.

Although the outcome is bad. Pollution is way to important to our economy as was stated by Regan. Not having all those products would mean that a very large amount of companies would file for bankruptcy. The economy could take such a bad turn that the government might have to give out treasury bonds which would later add to a much higher amount of debt for the companies. It's not hard to make a green economy in places that are still growing like brazil but many countries world-wide would have to file for default if we lowered our pollution.

This article is very sad and touching. It is really sad that all those animals would eat or get stuck in all that trash. It was a very interesting article, but very sad.

I can't believe that there is so much trash! It is so sad how many animals could die because of our garbage. This was still an interesting article though.

When I read the article I felt really bad. When I saw the seal thats when it really hit me. If we don't get better by the time we are all adults we will be talking about sea life the same way we talk about dinosaurs.

Sergio, I agree with your theory, but I believe that less pollution is more important than bankruptcy. I also have a solution to your problem. We could buy a lot of net whose holes are really small and put 10 feet under the surface of the ocean. It would catch all the waste and would not harm the sea life. We cold clean out the nets every year and thus help have less pollution and help the sea life. It would save so many endangered animals but would take a lot of fundraisers. Hopefully factories that produce the nets would let us pay less if we buy more. Although it would be a big effort, I think it would be worth and that everyone should help the sea life.

I think the pollution is bad. Also, it does harm the animals. However, if recoveries are to be made, then sacrifices must also be made. Perhaps with a net, we will catch a few animals, but the exchange is worth it, in my view. Remember, there is no perfect solution to any problem.

That is so sad. All the poor creatures have to suffer because of trash. There are so many things that are effected by using too much plastic and this is one of them. It is bad that it ends up on a beach that no one goes to. Sea life are important. It isn't good that some people just don't care and they go on littering. If you litter you are really helping in the killing of sea animals. I wonder if we would catch more animals with nets then animals that are being killed because of pollution. It is sad to think of the poor sea animals with the plastic in their stomachs. Would you like it if someone made plastic look like a meal to you, or someone trapped you in plastic?

It was scary to see that so many animals have trash inside of them. 10 ft of trash is just too much for all of those animals. I think that people should be more aware of the world around them. I don't think Gillian's idea would work because little holes stop the bigger fish from crossing the 10 foot line. This idea can only prevent trash, not get rid of the trash we already have. This is true because tons of our trash is deep underwater. Putting the net would take a lot of money, people wouldn't pay for it. 70% of the world is full of water which is 139.4 million square miles. Even if we manage to pay for all of this and make it. There is no way that we can possibly put it and maintain it. I mean maintain as in take the trash out. All the trash would be sitting on the net and the situation would be worse because it would be like a free meal. I therefore conclude that pollution is important, but sad.

I don’t think we realize how much plastic trash we throw out every single day. The saddest part is how it hurts and kills sea life. It’s so sad to see a dead albatross chick with its stomach filled with plastic stuff or a seal that’s all tangled in up in plastic trash. Actually plastic trash in the ocean also hurts humans by contaminating the seafood we eat. The chemicals released from plastics go up the food chain. The biggest problem is that plastic isn’t biodegradable and will take hundreds of years to disappear. The important thing is for everyone to use less plastic, clean up our beaches, be careful when throwing away plastic trash, and avoid letting plastic junk get into the ocean. It’s also important to recycle plastics and to avoid using Styrofoam which gives off bad chemicals when it’s heated and costs too much to recycle.
