fetal shark cut from the belly of a pregnant shark caught in the Gulf
of California. The shark, which would likely not have survived outside
the womb, had only one eye. Credit: Pisces Fleet Sportfishing

Wow! A cyclops shark sounds really crazy. I can't believe all of these deformed and creepy animals are created. But then again, a cyclops cat and shark would be a very interesting article. I don't really believe in yetis though.
That's so interesting! I never knew that animals could be born with no nose and only one eye, making them look like a cyclops. I wonder if there is some way to make a "cyclops" shark, human, or cat live longer then just an hour or less after birth.
Wow! That was really creepy but cool! I know that there have been a lot of records of people seeing mythical creatures, but they cannot ever be proven. I think this shark is really cool, and that it is kind of like the two faced cat because it is very rare and unusual. I am curious to know how long this shark will live. I don't believe people actually saw yeti's because the are very strange and uncommon. Besides, someone would have seen and animal that big before and gotten a picture of it. I think some undiscovered creatures that live in the water might actually exist, because it is harder to find them in the ocean, but the yeti lives on land.
It is amazing how amazing a deformity can be. I wonder what caused this mutation to take place before it left its mother's womb. It would be an amazing discovery if the people who found it took it to scientists to find out what happened and if it could happen to humans and if so if it could be prevented.
I think the cyclops shark is very interesting.I'm glad I wasn't born with one eye. I thought the shark was sort of cute. Cyclopia sounds like a bad condition. All the animals with it did not live for long. I wonder if it was because they had no nose, or if the defect came with a malfunctioning heart, or nervous system, or brain that caused death.
I think that this is really cool. Many times people make claims that they see creatures like yeti and bigfoot but they don't have legit proof. It's good that an abnormal creature like this finally has scientific proof of it's reality. However, these creatures don't live long because their organs are undeveloped, so usually scientists can only investigate them once they are dead. It would be really interesting if scientists could investigate these abnormal creatures while they were alive so they could observe different behaviors.
I think that the cyclops deformity is really interesting. I agree with Sinclaire on that scientists should come up with a sort of technology that could keep animals (and even people) alive longer with this disease. I don't know what yetis have to do with this though.
This is really weird and freaky. I can't believe that it only has one eye, and there were other animals (or people) like this. It is also really sad that with this disease animals could live for an hour or less.
I think the cyclops shark is a creepy creature and interesting. To me it sort of looks odd looking and not realistic. In the picture it looks like a catfish mixed with a shark because it has the tail of a shark and the shape of a catfish. I think this is the coolest animal I have ever seen.
Woah, that is one creepy fish! So many people have sighted 'mythical creatures' and have no proof, but this is really cool! I didn't know a cat could be born with only one eye and no nose! However, I don't think yetis are real.
That is really interesting. It isn't surprising that creatures who only have one eye and no nose don't live longer that an hour after birth. There are a lot of deformities that can make you look weird and die early. It is very sad. I agree with will that it would be interesting to find out what caused that to happen. If it has happened in a kitten and a baby then it probably isn't a coincidence that all three creatures were like that. That shark looked so weird. I wonder what it would be like to have no nose and only one eye.
I wonder if the shark would have developed two (or more) eyes if it was born normally? It said that it had only developed one eye, and I don't know if they meant that it would have formed another, or not. I think that they were a little biased on the topics of "imaginary" creatures, and the "proof". I don't know if the proof was real, or if it was created to make people confused. I liked this article, overall.
The baby Cyclops shark was taken out of the belly of the mother shark by a fisherman, so it never had the chance to be born. It was an albino fetal shark. Probably it had a genetic abnormality. It may have other abnormalities that would cause it to die early even if it had the chance to be born. It’s interesting that this condition occurs in humans and kittens too, and they die early too. It’s rare, but it is not a mythological creature. Why are people so interested in strange creatures?
I guess this is strange but not a surprise, a cyclops shark! We see humans with developmental differences so why should we be surprised that animals can develop oddly too, just like the two headed cat. Shark researchers took a look at the unusual creature and found that the cyclops shark had a problem with the eye sight tissue. Most likely the shark would not have survived long with only one eye. Oh and Sergio, the shark was caught off the coast of California. Perhaps this was caused by pollution or more likely genetic problems.

Does anybody know where it was found because it might have been a product of pollution.

This is amazing, it must be really rare to only be born with one eye.

It looks like clay, too. Also, was the mother shark mutated by an animal abuser or something like that?
