Losing Control Over Sugar

By Emory

Many sodas contain a sweetener called fructose. Scientists have shown how fructose can cause the body to produce excess amounts of insulin, a hormone used to control sugar in the blood.

This was very interesting. I know that sugar could set off your "sugar monster" inside you, but I didn't know it could be this bad. After I read a couple of articles on sugar eating last year, I limited my sugar intake. I think it is a very good idea to watch your sugar because before you no it, you will be craving sugar 24/7.

This is very interesting but also frightening. Plenty of people drink a lot of soda (although I am not one of them) and is it possible that a lot of people could have type 2 diabetes waiting to happen? I also find it kind of disturbing that eating a small amount of sugar can make you want more, and more, and more, etc. I think more people should know about this!

This was really informative. I thought it was really interesting that there are two diabetes that you can get from taking in too much sugar, but it was also horrible news. I knew that you would want more sugar if you kept having it. I, like Camille, have read articles about sugar, so I have limited how much sugar I eat. More people should be aware of this so that less people get diabetes.

I generally don't have much sugar, but this was very informative. Diabetes is in my genes so I have to be extra careful about my sugar intake. I thought it was interesting that eventually, if you eat too much sugar your insulin receptors will burn out and you will have a buildup of glucose. Sugar also causes people's blood sugar to raise. Carbs do a similar thing that sugar does and causes people's blood sugar to go crazy if you eat too many of them. I can understand how if you eat a little bit of sugar you want more and more and more because eventually your taste buds become so used to that taste that you need more and more to be satisfied.

This only shows how massive is the United States's addiction to unhealthy food. The United States of America is actually the fattest country in the world. It's interesting that the United States has made it illegal to eat many bad addictive things but hasn't limited the amount of junk that we can have in our junk-food. In the North Carolina State Fair, you can see many of the American herds which help make up the 2/3 of Americans that are overweight. We have so much unhealthy food because it's much cheaper. In North Carolina, you can eat a deep fried bar of candy. The most ironic thing about it is that the same Americans that fill themselves up with junk are the same people that complain about the rising cost of healthcare.

This article was interesting. I do not drink any soda, but for the people who do, this should be a reminder to watch your health more carefully! I knew about diabetes before and how it is when your body does not process sugar correctly. I never knew that having sugar can make you crave it even more! Child obesity is a large problem in our country and this article should be spread so people would know about this and try to do something to stop it. Like Cypress, I found it interesting how after too much sugar, you insulin receptors with stop. Diabetes is a disease that is becoming much more common, so I think people should be watching what they eat much more carefully and read articles about this topic to send them reminders and their sugar intake.

Occasionally I will drink soda. I love it, but I already knew that it is extremely unhealthy. Sugar and other junk foods are extremely addictive. It is a drug in some way. Obesity can shorten your life immensely. It is very important to be very careful about sugar.

I don't really pay much attention to the amount of sugar I take in. I feel like I naturally limit my sugar intake. I am very lucky for this. However, I am aware of many people taking in way too much sugar, especially in the United States. I am curious as to why this problem is mainly in America.

I always knew that it was unhealthy to eat sugar. I also knew that it is addictive in a way. I can't believe that there are two types of diabetes that can occur from having a large sugar intake. That is very scary. I really like soda, but I try to limit the amount of soda I drink. Especially after reading this article, I really am going to monitor my sugar intake. Anyways, I found this article to be very interesting and informative.

This was interesting. I don't drink a lot of soda, and when I do it doesn't make me want more. Apparently it does for some people. This study should be more well-known because this research can really help people.

Everyone knows that sugar can be bad for you, but I didn't know that it was this bad. Like Amanda, I did not know that there are two different types of diabetes from consuming too much sugar. This is very alarming and should be known worldwide.

This was a very interesting article. From this, I noticed that if you only have a little bit of sugar, you would keep on wanting more and more. Well, it happens to me sometimes. I would have only a little bit of sugar and start asking for more and more. No wonder my mom doesn't give my sibling and I a lot of sugar. It is scary how when people have too much sugar, they can have two types of diabetes like Cami said.

Just like Esther said, when I drink soda, which I barely get to do, I never want to drink more.

Okay, I would just like to clear something up. There is only one type of diabetes that you can get from sugar, the other you are born with. Type two diabetes is gotten later in life by high sugar intake. Type one diabetes is one that you are born with, and it is not your fault. Anyway, I thought that this article was very good and very informative. I wish I had a button on my email that said "send to obese" I would send them this link. Then again there would be some people in my family that would get a random email from me...

I find this article very interesting. I don't drink soda very often, but I drink it often when I go to restaurants. I don't really know much about getting diabetes. It's interesting that most people know that eating too much sugar is bad for you, but they don't really know how. This article actually informs you on how sugar is bad for you and what it does to your body.

How is it bad if you release too much insulin? I still don't understand it.

Emma said...

I guess this is just another way that sugar is bad for you. I have always known that sugar can be very bad for you, but I have never known exactly how it is bad for you. This article shows that too much of a good thing can be very bad. The right amount of insulin can stop you from developing diabetes, but too much insulin can provoke an insulin resistance and cause diabetes.

After reading this article, I realized that sugar is a drug and is more bad than good.
